Layaway

Pay for a piece over time

Layaway is simple and there is nothing clever in it. You put a deposit down, we lock the price and hold your place in the studio queue, you pay the rest in monthly instalments, and the piece is made or ordered once the last payment clears.

What we are holding is the price and your place in the queue — not a physical piece. Gemtastic does not keep stock. Nothing is set aside in a safe with your name on it, because there is nothing to set aside yet: your piece does not exist until it is made, and it is not made until the plan is paid. What your deposit buys is the price you agreed on the day you agreed it, and your position in the queue when the work begins.

There is no credit check. We do not run your credit and we do not lend you money. There is no interest, no service charge, no charge for paying late, and nothing added to the price. The total you agree at the start is the total you pay, and the written schedule shows that total including Minnesota sales tax.

How a plan works

  • Deposit: 10% to 20% of the total, paid when the plan starts. That is what locks the price and your place in the queue.
  • The balance: equal monthly instalments over 1 to 6 months, on a schedule we agree with you in writing before you pay anything.
  • The price is locked on the day you pay the deposit. If gold moves against us over your term, that is ours to carry, not yours.
  • Nothing is made, ordered or shipped until the final payment clears. After it does, allow the normal 2 to 3 weeks for delivery, counted from that final payment and not from your deposit.
  • You will get a written schedule listing every payment, its date and its amount, plus these terms, before your first payment.
  • You can pay the balance off early at any time, in any amount, at no cost.

What layaway is available on

Catalogue pieces at $1,000 and above. Layaway is not available on a discounted or sale price, and it is not available on a custom commission — a commission has its own deposit and its own cancellation terms, on our Custom Jewelry page.

You are never obliged to finish

A layaway plan is not a loan and it is not a contract to buy. You can stop at any time, for any reason, and you do not have to tell us why. Stopping costs you the 3% described below and nothing else.

If a payment is late

Tell us. We would far rather reschedule than cancel, and rescheduling costs you nothing. There is no charge for a late payment, ever.

If a payment is missed we give you 10 days, then write to you, then 10 days more. If we have not heard from you by the end of that, we close the plan and the terms below apply. We will not close a plan without writing to you first.

If you cancel, or a plan is closed

  • We keep 3% of what you have paid. That is the whole of what we retain: it is capped at 3%, it is never more than 3%, and no other charge is added to it.
  • Everything else is refunded to your original payment method, within 10 business days of your written cancellation. It is money back, not store credit.
  • The price lock ends with the plan.

Returns on a layaway purchase

A layaway purchase comes back exactly like any other purchase. You have the same 21 days from delivery to change your mind, on the same conditions, set out on our Returns & Exchanges page and in our Refund Policy. Paying over several months does not cost you that window.

The fault remedy applies in full. If your piece arrives faulty, has a manufacturing fault, arrived damaged in transit, or is materially different from how it was described, you have 21 days from delivery to tell us, and we repair, replace, or refund it at no cost to you whatsoever. Being on a payment plan never costs you a remedy for something we got wrong.

Starting a plan

Email GemtasticJewelry@gmail.com or call (414) 324-0498, Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM Central, and tell us the piece. We will send you the schedule and these terms in writing. Nothing is charged until you accept them.
